Phoenix Photonics enjoys fruitful 1st Qtr
Following a very good 2004 during which we welcomed many new customers by building on a strong technology base and releasing some exciting new products, 2005 has begun extremely well. There are some interesting product releases scheduled during the year, many as a result of working with potential customers to address specific problems and others as part of the technology roadmap to realize the full potential of the fiber evanescent field technology. Lee Giles, Business Development Director commented, ‘ We set ourselves tough targets right across the board for new product release, quality, delivery, customer satisfaction and revenue growth. Growth through achieving targets meets our objective to deliver the optimum solution to our customers. Based on last year’s performance, I don’t see any reason why we will not achieve and better the targets this year,’

Multi-fiber arrays
The recent launch of the multi-channel PM power monitor is the first of a planned range of multi-fiber components in compact packaging. The fiber evanescent field technology is a unique all-fiber technology with the capacity for multi-channel and multi-functional integration negating the requirement for precision aligned pigtails. Most of the products currently available from Phoenix can be integrated into multi-channel format and 2005 will see the release of more of these integrated arrays.

Launch of PM Power Monitor
To complement the company’s current single channel single mode fiber power monitor and build its strength in providing polarization maintaining fiber solutions, Phoenix Photonics has launched single and multi-channel polarization maintaining (PM) power monitors. Phoenix’s proprietary fiber evanescent field technology allows the fabrication of compact in-line power monitors which do not impinge the fiber core. This approach can be shown to provide the optimum detection responsivity against insertion loss ratio available from any other in-line approach to power monitoring.
The single channel PM power monitor is based on the successful single mode version and offers low insertion loss (<0.1dB, typ. 0.05 dB) for high responsivity (>5mA/W) and better than 25dB (typ: 30dB) polarization maintenance. The multi-fiber unit offers up to 8-channel monitoring in a compact DIL output pin configuration offering the same performance per channel with zero crosstalk. These flexible monitors offer the system design a range of options to monitor in a polarization maintaining fiber system with low footprint, simple PCB interfacing components.

Launch of 980/1060nm Polarizer.
Phoenix Photonics has enhanced its range of all-fiber Polarizers in response to customer demand for high quality fiber components by developing devices suitable for 980 and 1060nm applications. Generally recognized as the optimum technology to fabricate fiber polarizers the unique evanescent field technology enables fabrication of polarizers exhibiting virtually zero back reflection, high extinction ratios and very low insertion loss. Wideband operation polarizers with extinction ratios above 40dB and insertion loss below 0.4dB are now available in the 980nm and 1060nm operational windows in SM/SM, SM/PM and PM/PM fiber tail formats.
