Fiber to the Home (FTTH) Network Solutions
Broadband connectivity services are a widespread and common media in today’s market, consumer and business expectations are at an all time high and carriers must find a way to supply ever growing market demands for additional bandwidth. With the universal use of services, such as high resolution video streaming and online gaming in the mainstream, bandwidth requirements are in real demand. In addition, the proliferation of social networking and other similar applications utilising peer-to-peer networks also present a need for greater up-stream data rates driving forward the demand to develop and deploy next generation optical networks.
To meet customer expectations and attain a target of 100Mbit/s data rate at the desktop, carriers are developing and rolling out next generation passive optical networks (PON) commonly referred to as fiber to the home (FTTH) or fiber to the “X” (FTTX) networks. FTTX rollout has commenced worldwide mostly thanks to municipalities. However, a sticking point for service providers and utilities is the trade off between the capital expenditure involved in driving fiber deeper into the access network against the competitive edge it represents. While FTTH networks are ideal from a consumer stand point, Fiber to the building (FTTB) or fiber to the curb (FTTC), Fiber to the node (FTTN) etc networks offer a practical solution thus utilising the existing copper infrastructure already in place. Of course restrictions in performance are inherent with this type of compromise where users closer to the fiber/copper (VDSL) connectivity point will benefit from higher bit rate speeds than those further away.
Phoenix offers a range of passive optical products universally used in PON networks, connectivity hot spots and the need for distributing power and wavelengths gives rise to a requirement of high precision and low loss connectivity and optical splitting products. Because every network represents a different challenge Phoenix Photonics offers custom solutions so the user can seamlessly integrate the products into their network. All products are available as discrete components or managed/configured in a 19" rack system to the customer’s specification.
