Over-Temperature Detection
Case study:
In many diverse areas it is critical to assess individual components operational status, in particular where overheating may indicate a fault or potential failure. In many applications conventional electrical sensors cannot be utilised and fibres offer, a non-metallic, non electrical interference method of detection in a very compact format.
By using the technology used to fabricate the Phoenix shutter and modifying the packaging, an effective thermal switch was developed. Compact customer specified packaging was developed to fix the sensors to the component to be monitored. In addition a novel catastrophic failure method was developed.
Using standard distributive reflective attenuation detection techniques multiple detectors can be addressed simultaneously. This successful solution was delivered to schedule and is currently operational.
